Training and learning with Bluefruit

Bluefruit Software is a learning company, with this philosophy forming a key part of our business strategy.

We invest in our people and nurture local talent in our wider community.

How do we do this?

  • We enable our people to improve through formal and informal learning.
  • We support Software Cornwall in training and learning initiatives.
  • We attend careers events at schools and colleges, to show that a career in tech is possible in Cornwall.
  • We take part in Nuffield Research Placements.
  • We take on apprentices.

What are we involved in?

Agile Huddle

The Agile Huddle is a two-week event that involves bringing together passionate programmers, aged 16 and over, into a professional work-like environment. Participants work on a “client project”, learning new coding skills alongside Lean-Agile methods of working. Bluefruit hosts this event with support from partners.

Mission to Mars

Hosted by Software Cornwall, Mission to Mars enables young people aged 14 to 24 to learn more about software development. The participants do not need to have previous programming experience. Mission to Mars is available as either a weeklong or a two-day event and as a work experience event during the summer term. Bluefruit’s team volunteer as mentors during the programme.

Tech jams

Working with partners like Software Cornwall, we mentor at local tech jams. Our team has a wealth of experience and knowledge that can help participants gain the most from jams.

Nuffield Research Placements

Bluefruit participates in Nuffield Research Placements. During the summer, we take on a student who is in the first year of post-16 education and studying in a STEM focused course. The student comes to our offices and works on a research project related to Bluefruit.

Apprenticeships

Every two years, we take on a new group of apprentices. Our apprentices become an integral part of our teams, working alongside our embedded software engineers and testers while also studying part-time at a local FE college. We will be recruiting for new apprentices in 2021.
